The Role
As Depot Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational performance of the depot, leading the depot team and ensuring that our plant and fleet are managed to the highest standards.
You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient and well-organised depot environment, ensuring equipment is available and compliant, and that all operational activities are delivered effectively.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong people-management skills, sound plant and fleet knowledge, and a clear focus on safety, compliance and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Take overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day operation of the depot.
Plan and coordinate depot activities to ensure plant is prepared, available and ready for customer requirements.
Ensure efficient management of incoming and outgoing plant, inspections, movements and general depot activities.
Maintain a clean, safe, organised and professional depot environment.
Identify operational improvements and implement effective working practices.
Work closely with other Flannery departments, including Transport, Maintenance, Hire Desk and Operations.
Lead, motivate and develop the depot team, creating a positive and accountable working environment.
Plan team resource and workloads to meet operational demands.
Set clear expectations around performance, safety, quality and customer service.
Conduct regular briefings, reviews and performance discussions.
Support recruitment, onboarding, training and development of depot employees.
Deal effectively with attendance, conduct and performance issues in line with company procedures.
Maintain oversight of the depot plant and fleet, ensuring equipment is available, correctly prepared and appropriately allocated.
Ensure all plant entering and leaving the depot is inspected and processed correctly.
Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure defects, servicing and repairs are identified and managed promptly.
Monitor plant condition, utilisation and availability, escalating issues where required.
Ensure equipment is stored and handled correctly to minimise damage and downtime.
Support effective fleet movements and transport planning.
Promote a strong safety-first culture across the depot.
Ensure depot activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, legal requirements and industry standards.
Maintain high standards of plant inspection, documentation and operational compliance.
Ensure all defects, incidents and safety concerns are reported, investigated and appropriately actioned.
Carry out and support regular depot inspections, audits and safety checks.
Ensure employees are appropriately trained, competent and operating within agreed procedures.
Take ownership of corrective actions and ensure they are closed out effectively.
Monitor depot performance against operational and business objectives.
Maintain accurate depot records and ensure required systems and documentation are kept up to date.
Identify issues affecting plant availability, productivity, safety or service and take appropriate action.
Provide regular updates to senior management on depot performance, resource requirements and operational risks.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Depot Manager who can demonstrate:
Proven experience managing a plant hire, construction plant, fleet, logistics or similar operational depot.
Strong leadership and people-management experience.
Good working knowledge of plant and fleet operations.
A strong understanding of health and safety, compliance and operational procedures.
Experience managing competing operational priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues, customers and external stakeholders.
A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to make sound decisions and lead from the front.
Strong attention to detail, particularly around plant condition, inspections, documentation and compliance.
The ability to build an accountable, collaborative and high-performing team.
