Role Summary
We are recruiting a Class 1 HGV Low Loader Driver to join our transport team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, compliant and timely delivery and collection of plant and equipment using low loader trailers. This role requires excellent vehicle handling skills, attentiveness to safety and paperwork, and a professional approach when representing Flannery on site and with customers.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Class 1 (Category C+E) vehicles with low loader trailers to deliver and collect plant, machinery and attachments to customer sites across the UK.
Ensure secure loading, lashing and unloading of equipment in line with manufacturer guidance and company procedures.
Carry out pre‑start checks, daily vehicle inspections and complete vehicle defect reports promptly and accurately.
Accurately complete delivery paperwork, vehicle logs, customer sign‑offs and electronic job reporting systems.
Comply with all legal and company requirements including Drivers’ Hours, tachograph use, weight limits and escort/permits when required.
Maintain high standards of vehicle cleanliness and basic vehicle maintenance; report defects and arrange repairs through the depot.
Work closely with depot teams, transport planners and site personnel to ensure efficient scheduling and customer satisfaction.
Represent Flannery professionally on site, providing excellent customer service and building positive working relationships.
Adhere to all health & safety and site-specific rules, participate in toolbox talks and support a safety-first culture.
Skills and Attributes
Proven experience driving Class 1 (C+E) vehicles, preferably with experience of low loader operations and plant movements.
Good knowledge of vehicle loading, securement and safe shunting practices.
Awareness of Drivers’ Hours regulations, tachograph usage and relevant transport legislation.
Strong observational skills, reliability and the ability to work under time pressures to meet delivery schedules.
Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, colleagues and site staff.
Positive attitude to health & safety and commitment to following company procedures and site rules.
Qualifications
Essential
Valid UK Category C+E (Class 1) driving licence with no serious endorsements and entitlement to drive in the UK.
Current Driver Qualification Card (DQC) / CPC (Driver CPC) Card and digital tachograph card.
Valid CPC hours qualification (Module), valid for driving duties.
Ability to load, secure and unload plant safely and follow manual handling guidance.
Desirable
Experience with low loader trailers and plant-specific securing methods.
Previous experience working on construction, civils or infrastructure projects.
Basic mechanical awareness or ability to carry out routine checks and report defects.
