As an Auto Electrician (GPS Technician) with Flannery Plant Hire you will be responsible for the installation, fault diagnosis, repair and maintenance of vehicle and plant electrical systems with a particular focus on vehicle tracking, telematics and GPS systems. You will work across our depot network and on customer sites, ensuring equipment is fitted and functioning to manufacturer and company standards, and that records are kept accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure and commission GPS machine control systems on a variety of vehicles and plant machinery.
Carry out diagnostic testing and fault-finding on electrical systems, sensors, wiring looms and CANbus networks.
Repair or replace electrical components and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards.
Carry out scheduled maintenance and inspection of electrical systems, recording findings and completing necessary paperwork.
Work with telematics software providers and internal teams to ensure devices are communicating correctly and data integrity is maintained.
Provide on-site support to operatives and customers, explaining technical issues and recommended solutions in a clear and professional manner.
Maintain accurate job records, installation sheets and service logs using company systems.
Adhere to all health and safety policies and safe working practices, participating in toolbox talks and risk assessments as required.
Collaborate with depot, workshop and operations teams to prioritise work and support fleet availability.
Keep up to date with developments in vehicle electrics, telematics and GPS technology and attend relevant training.
Qualifications and Experience:
NVQ or equivalent qualification in Vehicle Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Engineering, Auto Electrics or a related subject would be desirable.
Proven experience working on vehicle or plant electrical systems, including wiring, sensors and CANbus diagnostics.
Experience installing and configuring GPS, telematics or tracking systems is essential.
Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals.
Good practical fault-finding skills and experience with diagnostic tools and multimeters.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites and between depots.
Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
IT literate with basic skills in using diagnostic software and company systems.
Able to work flexibly to meet business needs, including occasional out-of-hours or emergency call-outs.
